Outstanding Agency Field Instructors

The UM School of Social Work places significant emphasis on acknowledging the vital role of agency field instructors in shaping the future of social workers. These Agency Field Instructors offer invaluable hands-on support, mentorship, and guidance critical for students' professional development and readiness to embark on their careers as social workers

Each year, the school bestows the title of BSW and MSW Outstanding Agency Field Instructor. These accolades are determined through student nominations based on the following criteria:

  • Provides exceptional mentorship to practicum students
  • Sets a professional example of social work conduct in both practice and supervision
  • Shows commitment to teaching and displays ongoing professional growth
  • Holds a deep sense of dedication to the field of social work and takes pride in being a social worker
  • Demonstrates critical, independent thinking and actively encourages students to cultivate these essential skills

A faculty committee selects one supervisor from the pool of BSW and MSW-nominated candidates to honor each year.
