Climate Leadership Course - Fall 2024

Interested in learning more about Climate Change?

Consider taking a Climate Leadership Class (ENST 191)

 

This course explores the critical role of leadership in effective climate action.  Using current climate change policy and planning examples with leaders in the various fields, students will have an opportunity to learn about the significance of leadership in climate change science and policy making and consider their own climate leadership potential.

 

Why should students take this course?  

Students will have the opportunity to interact with experts in various professional positions and make key contacts in the field of climate change while exploring their own unique interests and leadership abilities.

 

Who can take this course? 

The course is open to all upper class (junior and senior) high school students as well as first year (freshman) college students in Montana.

 

How much will it cost?

Its FREE!  And you may be able to earn 1-credit towards your undergraduate college degree (elective).

 

When, where, and for how long will the course meet?

The course will be on-line and will take 16 hours (4 hours over 4 different days) through synchronous Zoom-style meetings.  We anticipate the course being offered in the Fall of 2024.

 

What work and assignments will be expected?

Students will read excerpts from local/national/international climate policy documents, short journal articles, and various current multi-media sources before classes, and then hear from guest speakers with expertise in climate policy/planning and climate leadership during the class meetings as well as participate in directed discussions.   The final assignment will be a “Climate Leadership Storytelling Video” that students will create showcasing stories of climate leaders and their own personal leadership story as it relates to climate change. Videos will be presented to the class on the final day.

 

Is there an enrollment limit?

There is room for 30 students across Montana.
