Personal Summary

Carissa is an Assistant International Program Officer at the Mansfield Center. She completed her bachelor's degree in Social Work from Eastern Mennonite University (EMU) in Harrisonburg, Virginia. During her studies Carissa was able to participate in a faculty-directed study abroad program focusing on history and photography in the Baltics (Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia). Through this experience she found an interest in intercultural studies and has worked with international students and scholars from over 25 different countries since. Carissa was fortunate to be able to co-lead the faculty-directed program to the Baltics two additional times through EMU, and previously worked with UM's Global Engagement Office where she was the English Language Institute Office Coordinator and Humphrey Fellowship Program Coordinator. Carissa is passionate about intercultural communication and education and values the Mansfield Center’s mission of fostering globally minded leaders of integrity through the exchange of dialogue, cultures, ideas, and experiences.

Hobbies

Outside of work Carissa enjoys spending time outside trail running and backpacking, reading, and dabbling in art.
