Mikael Heydt

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Personal Summary

Mikael was raised in Missoula, Montana, where he attended Big Sky High School before obtaining his bachelors in Political Science and a minor in History at the University of Montana. As an undergraduate he represented UM at the 2022 73rd Annual Student Conference on U.S. Affairs (SCUSA) at West Point Military Academy, along with being the recipient of the President's Outstanding Student Award in Political Science for International Relations and Comparative Politics. He is currently working towards his Masters in Political Science at UM, with his studies focusing on International Relations, Political Theory, and Comparative Politics, to the side of having been a graduate teaching assisant for Model United Nations and American Government. Mikael is also a Max Baucus Institute Montana Leader, working with the Montana World Affairs Council to bring international education and awareness to high school students all across the state of Montana. To the side of school, Mikael is an avid reader, loves to ski and snowboard, and to spend quality time with his family, friends, and dogs here in Missoula. 

Education

Bachelors of Arts in Political Science and a minor in History at the University of Montana. Recpient of Presidents' Outstand Student Award in International Relations and Comparative Politics.

Teaching Experience

Teaching Assisant for Model United Nations (Fall 2023) and American Government (Spring 2024).

Research Interests

International relations, world order & history, and American power politics.

Hobbies

Skiing, snowboarding, astronomy, reading, and hiking.
