Joanna R. Shelton teaches, lectures, and writes on economic policy issues, including a decade-plus monthly column for Montana Lee Newspapers. Prior to moving to Montana, Ms. Shelton served as Deputy Secretary General of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in Paris and as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Trade Policy in the George H.W. Bush and Clinton Administrations in Washington, D.C. She also served on the U.S. House Ways and Means Committee staff; at the U.S. Treasury Department; and U.S. Trade Representative’s Office. Ms. Shelton is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations, the Japan-America Society of the State of Washington, and the Montana World Affairs Council. She earned her B.A. from Duke University and her M.A. from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. Ms. Shelton, with her late husband, owns and operates a 240-acre farm in Moiese Valley, raising hay for horses, cattle, and bison.
