Western Montana Area Health Education Center

Western Montana Area Health Education CenterThe Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program was developed by Congress in 1971 to recruit, train, and retain a health professions workforce committed to underserved populations. The AHEC program taps the resources of academic medicine to address local community health needs. The strength of the AHEC Network is its ability to creatively adapt national initiatives to help address local and regional healthcare issues. The Western Montana AHEC was established in 2008 and is part of the Montana AHEC (originally established in 1985).WMT-AHEC is located in the College of Health  at the University of Montana-Missoula and serves Flathead, Lake, Lincoln, Mineral, Missoula, Sanders, and Ravalli counties.

Campus Care Consortium

Recognizing that interprofessional education, integration and teamwork are the future of healthcare, faculty and staff have come together to create the Campus Care Consortium (CCC) to overcome barriers that have made it difficult for healthcare trainees at the University of Montana to learn "about, from, and with" each other. The CCC was established in 2015 with a mission of promoting interprofessional education and collaboration at UM. Through the CCC, trainees working at on-campus clinics collaborate with each other and with trainees from other health-related disciplines to enhance communication, consultation, and referrals between programs in ways that improve interprofessional training and patient care.

Hospitals and Clinics

None of the training that our students experience would be possible without partnerships from area hospitals and clinics. We have longstanding relationships and training opportunities for students in rural and suburban areas across Montana, as well as out of state. Our partnerships with Missoula's local area hospitals and clinics are integral to the experiential education our students receive.
