Cascade CMS has the ability to check for broken links in your website using the Link Checker. The Link Checker can be accessed as a widget on your dashboard or by clicking ☰ > Reports > Broken Links.

If link checker detects any broken links, it provides you with a comprehensive report detailing any errors. In addition, the link checker will provide several options for correcting these errors.

Link Checker Widget

Add the Widget

1. Click the Home button (Cascade logo) in the top menu bar. 

2. Find the Welcome widget in the top left of the dashboard.

3. Click Add Widget.

4. Click Link Checker.

The widget will display on the dashboard and is ready to configure.

Configure the Widget

After adding the widget to your dashboard, you'll be prompted to configure the widget.

1. Choose the site that will be checked in the Site drop down menu.

2. Click Save Settings.

Click and drag to move the Link Checker widget to a new location.

Broken Link Report

The Broken Link Report displays results of a scheduled broken link checker. Only pages and files that are marked as publishable are included when scanning for broken links.

Access the Report

The Broken Link Report can be accessed by clicking on any links that are listed in the Link Checker widget on your dashboard or by selecting the report in the Administration Menu.

1. Click the Administration Menu (☰ icon) in the top right corner.

2. Click Reports.

3. Click on Broken Links.

Filter the Report

Different sites can be selected for review when viewing the Broken Link Report. To filter your results, click the Filter Results link and choose from the following options.

Site allows you to choose which the site you'd like to review for broken links.

Group by asset containing broken links or by individual broken links.

Type will display broken links that are internal only, external only, or both.

Hide Fixed will exclude links that have been marked as fixed.

Show Ignored will display links that have been marked as ignored.

Report Summary

The top portion of the Broken Link Report displays a general summary of the number of assets with broken links, the total number of broken links for the selected site, the number of broken links that have been ignored, and the remaining links that have not been checked as fixed or ignored.

Report Fields

A detailed list of all broken links found on the site can be found below the report summary. The list contains the following fields.

Source displays the page containing the broken link.

Occurrences displays the number of broken links contained on a page or the number of assets containing the broken link depending on your filter settings.

Type indicates whether the broken link is pointing internally or externally.

Link Description provides a short description of the text that is being linked or the tag that contains the link (such as an image).

Status indicates whether a link is broken, marked as fixed, or marked as ignored.
