Research-Based Opportunities

ASC typically only accept new graduate students when funding is available for a research project (a research or teaching assistantship). Individuals who have their own funding, perhaps from the agency they work for or a fellowship, are also considered. If you are interested in becoming a graduate student with ASC, please send the following:

  1. Cover letter
  2. Statement of Interest: Describe your motivation for working with the ASC at UM and propose a few projects ideas for your graduate research (max 1 page).
  3. Statement of Diversity: Describe what diversity means to you. Expand on how you encourage diversity, equity, or inclusion in the past, present, or plan to in the future. Describe your ideas on how the wildlife profession can increase diversity, equity, and inclusion (max 1 page).
  4. Statement on Graduate Education: Provide your ideals of the graduate school experience. What challenges or requirements are you most excited to embrace? What challenges or requirements are excited you the least? What professional and personal goals will the graduate experience help you achieve (max 1 page).
  5. CV or Resume
  6. Names and contact information for 3 references
  7. Transcripts (unofficial are acceptable)

Keep in mind that a huge pool of exceptional individuals apply for 1-2 graduate positons every year.
