Scholarships for Undergraduate Students
UM Scholarship Portal
The University of Montana now administers most scholarship funds through the UM Scholarship Portal. The portal is accessible to all UM students and offers one centralized general application, regardless of a student’s major or program of study. The UM Scholarship Portal replaces the General University Scholarship (GUS) application used by continuing students, as well as many individual departmental, school and college applications. Application deadlines vary by department and/or by opportunity. Continuing students must submit a completed General Application by February 15 to be considered for the scholarships administered by the Financial Aid Office. American Indian Education Fund
American Indian Education Fund, a program of PWNA, offers scholarships and grants, emergency funding and college readiness camps, as well as literacy and school supplies to help end the cycle of poverty. Education is one of the most important cornerstones of self-sufficiency and quality of life. It is also a crucial factor in addressing the long-term challenges on the reservations we serve. American Indian Services
American Indian Services makes educational opportunities possible for qualifying Native American students who otherwise could not afford it. We provide more than 2300 scholarships annually. American Indian Graduate Center
The American Indian Graduate Center provides a variety of scholarships for high school students entering an accredited institution, students pursuing undergraduate degrees as full-time students, graduate students pursuing a master, doctoral, or professional degree as a full-time student. The Cobell Scholarship
The Cobell Scholarship is a non-renewable competitive scholarship that provides one-year of scholarship support to enrolled members (or verified descendants) of US Federally-recognized tribes with strong academic records who can demonstrate financial need while pursuing Vocational Certification, Associates, Bachelors, Masters and Doctoral degrees. The Goldwater Scholarship
The Goldwater scholarship provides $7500 for students committed to careers involving math, science, or engineering research. Students with one or two years of college remaining may apply. You will write a research plan as part of your application. https://goldwater.scholarsapply.org/
The Udall Undergraduate Scholarship
The Udall Undergraduate Scholarship provides $5000 for students committed to careers related to the environment AND to Native American students committed to careers in tribal public policy OR Native American health care. Students with one or two years of college remaining may apply. UM currently leads the nation in Udall Scholarships. This scholarship is for Sophomores and Juniors and the deadline is March 8, 2018. www.udall.gov
The Truman Scholarship
The Truman Scholarship for graduate and professional school requires application a year early; candidates apply as juniors. You must demonstrate outstanding potential for public service and be committed to making a difference through careers in government, the nonprofit or advocacy sectors, education, or elsewhere in the field. You will write a brief policy proposal as part of your application www.truman.gov
Intertribal Timber Council
Established in 1976, the ITC is a nonprofit nation-wide consortium of Indian Tribes, Alaska Native Corporations, and individuals dedicated to improving the management of natural resources of importance to Native American communities. http://www.itcnet.org/
2 Plus 2 Honor Scholarship
The 2 + 2 Honor Scholarship is awarded annually to students who graduate with an associate degree from a 2-year campus of the Montana University System or a Montana Community College (listed below). The scholarship consists of a waiver of undergraduate tuition at any 4-year unit of the Montana University System and may be received up to a total of four continuous (fall/spring) semesters. Maureen and Mike Mansfield Native American Scholarship Application
The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Native American Scholarship shall provide at least two scholarships each year for deserving female Native American students, at the undergraduate level, and who are from any of the seven Indian reservations within the State of Montana. The scholarships shall be available to students who wish to attend one of the four University of Montana campuses.
