Wilderness Connect is a national wilderness library created in 1996 and maintained through a collaborative partnership between the Wilderness Institute, the Arthur Carhart National Wilderness Training Center and the Aldo Leopold Wilderness Research Institute.

The Wilderness Connect's website and social media channels educate hundreds of thousands of visitors each year about wilderness and the value of public lands preservation. The website houses the only officially-recognized, national database of all Bureau of Land Management, Fish and Wildlife Service, Forest Service and National Park Service wilderness areas. Not only does it serve as the definitive digital source for wilderness acreages, area descriptions, and GIS boundaries, Wilderness Connect works directly with wilderness management agencies to provide other important place-specific information to the recreating public, such as regulations, trip planning tips and volunteer opportunities. In addition to learning about specific wilderness areas, Wilderness Connect brings alive the history of the wilderness ethic, important and influential personalities, the values and benefits of wilderness, threats to wilderness and more through interactive examples, tools and maps.

A special section of the Wilderness Connect's website, as well as a published email update service, is dedicated to serving wilderness practitioners--government land management and wilderness advocacy organization employees. Through a variety of online search tools, wilderness legislation, legislative history, special provisions, agency policies, regulatory information, reports and MOUs, and scientific literature and research are all available to inform wilderness stewardship decision-making. More than 30 topic-based toolboxes on contemporary wilderness management issues--from climate change to restoration, working with volunteers and wilderness character monitoring--equip the wilderness workforce with the latest information to protect these valuable public lands.
