Flagship Fund Call for Proposals 2023

The University invites proposals from faculty and staff for Flagship Fund investment resources. Proposals may fall into two categories:

  1. Investment funding for a single year to address a specific need or solve a particular problem

  2. Investment funding for one or more years for revenue-generating ideas that become self-sustaining

Successful proposals will align with UM’s aspiration as a Flagship for the Future. Proposals should help translate UM’s Vision into action by helping to advance UM’s Priorities for Action objectives. Successful proposals will also demonstrate an awareness of the need to partner across offices and units as we build UM’s future.

A Flagship Fund Advisory Group of UM employees, along with a student representative, will review the proposals, provide feedback to help sharpen the proposals, and make recommendations to President Bodnar and Provost Mahdavi on the proposals to move forward for investment. The advisory group will meet with proposal authors in late November, late January, and late February to review and provide feedback on proposals submitted by November 15, January 17, and February 15 respectively.

Early submission is encouraged as those who submit proposals by the November and January deadlines will have more time to refine those proposals based on the advisory group’s feedback. Revised proposals are due on March 15. The advisory group will make its recommendations to leadership by April 1, and leadership will finalize investment decisions by May 1.

Funded projects will be communicated with campus, and proposers will be expected to share the impacts of their work at a campus forum at the end of the academic year.
