Global Ecology: Conservation and Natural Resource Management in a Changing World

In this course, students will examine the primary concepts and principles within the fields of ecology and conservation biology with application to global protected areas management.  The course highlights both theory and application of these general principles, allowing students to examine their own individual natural resources as part of their course activities. Students taking this module are not expected to have a prior understanding of ecology or conservation biology. By first examining biological and physical environmental processes, then exploring these processes within the context of resource management and conservation, and finally focusing on the application of these learned skills to case studies, students will understand how to apply ecological theory to real world challenges in protected areas management and global conservation initiatives.
