About CIS's Childcare Pilot Program

The Coalition for Indigenous STEM (CIS) has partnered with ASUM Child Care in opening a culturally responsive and sustaining childcare site for UM's tribally affiliated students. Both CIS and ASUM Child Care are focused on providing students with increased childcare access in an ethical, affordable, and inclusive manner.   

Site Details

  • Located in Craighead Apartments, Rm 106A (1900 Maurice Avenue); approximately five blocks from campus.
  • Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 8am-4pm. This learning center will be closed for winter, spring, and summer breaks as well as university holidays.
  • Enrollment Fee: Income based sliding fee scale. 
  • For children ages 3-5 years old.
  • Minimum two days per week enrollment. 
  • Accepting 10-16 children per day. 
  • Toilet-trained required. 
  • Parents/guardians required to pack child's lunch (nut free); healthy snacks will be provided. 

Eligibility Requirements 

  • Must currently be a full-time student (graduate student full-time status may vary).
  • Must indicate connection to a federally recognized tribe.
  • Open to students in all areas of study; science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) majors will receive priority consideration.

Students will apply by downloading ASUM Child Care's New Enrollment Application (link below). You will email your completed application to ASUM Child Care Director Vicki Olson.
