Milton E. Olin

Entertainment Counsel
Manatt, Phelps & Phillips LLP

Milton Olin is currently Counsel to the National Law Firm of Manatt Phelps & Phillips, LLP where he practices Entertainment, New Media, IP and Internet law in their Los Angeles Office. His clients include both established and start-up companies, as well as performers, producers, publishers, songwriters and personal managers.

Immediately prior to joining Manatt, Milt was Managing Director of Strategic Counsel, a New Media Rights consulting firm, where he provided New Media consulting services to a variety of companies, with particular reference to the digital music space. Prior to that, Milt was the COO of file-sharing service Napster, where he was tasked with obtaining licenses for the proposed Bertelsmann-backed licensed p2p service. Milt came to Napster following his efforts at launching a startup company backed by Kleiner-Perkins and idealab! called FirstLook.com which provided targeted marketing services on the internet for music, movies and videogames.

That effort followed Milt’s 14-year career at A&M Records, where he rose to the level of Senior Vice President of Business & Legal Affairs and was responsible for all legal and business aspects of the company prior to the consolidation of A&M in wake of their acquisition by Vivendi/Universal.

Milt began his career as a lawyer in the Los Angeles Law Firm of Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp, where he was a partner practicing Entertainment Law. He holds a Juris Doctor degree from UCLA where he was a member of the Law Review, and Bachelors of Arts degrees in both Sociology and Psychology from University of California at Santa Barbara.
