  • Central Montana:

    The Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research (ITRR) at the University of Montana is currently looking for an individual to conduct nonresident visitor surveys and resident travel and recreation surveys (25 variable hours per week). This candidate will live in the Great Falls or Helena area and be able to travel to either Great Falls or Helena and also to Lewistown and surrounding communities. One overnight trip to Helena (or Great Falls, depending on where the candidate resides) each month is required, with lodging paid.

    The position involves: 1) talking to both nonresidents and Montana residents about their travel experiences and recording the data on an iPad (provided); 2) surveying nonresidents at the Great Falls and Helena airports (requires passing a background check); 3) collecting proportion counts of passengers boarding flights at the airports; 4) uploading data after each shift; 5) mailing airport counts to ITRR on a bi-weekly basis; 6) providing a twice weekly status of activities to ITRR via telephone; 7) submitting hours worked and miles traveled via e-mail (experience with Excel preferred); 8) being able to work independently with little direct supervision. 

    Reimbursement for miles driven will be at the state rate (currently $0.67/mile). Salary is $20-22/hour, depending on experience.

    Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and be willing to drive within the duty area. Internet access (wireless preferred) is required for bi-weekly paperwork submission and uploading of data after each shift.  Applicants must be willing to work 3 days per week (up to 8-10 hrs./day) with work days and hours alternating each week. While the position is technically part-time and temporary, data collection does occur year-round. Individuals must be willing to work outside in all types of weather.

  • Billings

    The Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research (ITRR) at the University of Montana is currently looking for a reliable individual to conduct nonresident visitor surveys and resident travel and recreation surveys 25-29 variable hours per week. The ideal candidate will live in Billings; however, other areas of consideration are Columbus, Red Lodge, Bridger, Garryowen, or Crow Agency. Travel to all of the above communities listed is required, in addition to one overnight trip every other month to the Broadus area (lodging costs covered).

    The position involves: 1) talking to both nonresidents and Montana residents about their travel experiences and recording the data on an iPad (provided); 2) surveying and counting nonresidents at the Billings airport (requires passing a background check); 3) collecting proportion counts along highway entry points into the state; 4) uploading data after each shift; 5) mailing airport and highway counts to ITRR on a bi-weekly basis; 6) providing a twice weekly status of activities to ITRR via telephone; 7) submitting hours worked and miles traveled via e-mail; 8) being able to work independently with little direct supervision.  Reimbursement for miles driven will be at the state rate (currently $0.67/mile).
