SONIA SOFTWARE

The School of Social Work at the University of Montana utilizes Sonia, a practicum management software, to oversee student placements. Sonia is a tool designed to streamline the practicum process, from placement to evaluation, ensuring a smooth and organized experience for students. The Field Education Team provides students with login details before beginning their practicum, enabling access to Sonia.

Securing a Practicum

First, students must complete the Practicum Application through Sonia, our practicum tracking software. This application collects information on students' backgrounds and interests and evaluates their social work competencies.

Selecting a Practicum Site

Students aren't required to know their desired practicum location initially. The process begins with reviewing a list of practicum agencies, followed by a meeting with the Director of Field Education. It's important for students to work closely with the field education office and not arrange agency interviews on their own. Generally, students interview two to three agency supervisors before deciding on their practicum site, concluding with another meeting with the Director of Field Education for the final selection. Remember that practicum hours will not be counted until all required documentation is submitted correctly.
