Summer Faculty:

This summer both Moodle and Canvas will be available to deliver courses at the University of Montana.

Opt-In Survey for Canvas

All instructors planning to use Canvas for Summer 2024 must complete the Opt-in Survey by 5:00 PM on February 29th (Leap Day!) for each course. The survey will collect specific course information that will allow UMOnline to best support faculty as the course is migrated to Canvas. If faculty have not opted in by February 29th, it will be assumed that they will teach their course(s) in Moodle. Due to the advance preparation needed, faculty will not be able to opt-in to Canvas after the February 29th deadline.

Training and Support

To facilitate the switch from Moodle to Canvas, summer faculty teaching in Canvas are expected to participate in training starting in mid-March. Training opportunities will be posted to the Canvas Project website under Faculty Trainings and Resources by early March. Once faculty have completed the UM Canvas Essentials training (currently under construction), they will also have access to support from a UMOnline instructional designer (ID) by contacting UMOnlineIDs@umontana.edu.

Communication with Students

Later in the spring, faculty will need to email their summer students to welcome them to their course and inform them that the course they have registered for will be delivered via Canvas. Suggested language for this communication, including links to student tutorials and resources will be provided by UMOnline in late spring.
