Summer Payroll - Faculty Procedure

Regular Faculty

All regular academic-year faculty members who are paid during the summer must have a summer appointment form.

Payments to faculty members who are teaching during summer semester will be based on 2/9 of the previous academic year’s base salary, pro-rated for less than full-time teaching, not to exceed the ceiling as specified in the UFA contract, Section 13.600.

Payments to faculty members doing research during the summer semester will be made according to the daily rate calculated from the previous academic year’s base rate.  The payment will be for the number of working days in the appointment period at the FTE stated on the summer Request for Personnel Transaction Form (RPT).

Visiting Faculty

Payments to visiting faculty are determined by the department but must be approved by the Summer Program’s Office.  Visiting faculty payments should not vary widely from salary for The University of Montana regular faculty, except in unusual circumstances.

Health Insurance for Academic Year Employees - Summer Months

The University of Montana provides a full year (12 months) of health insurance coverage for all permanent academic year (10 month) employees.

During the summer months, the health insurance for academic employees continues to be charged to the department issuing the last payroll for the final pay period of the academic year.  If an academic year employee works for 10 months in one department and for another department during the summer, the health insurance will still be charged to the academic year (10 month) department.

If a department wishes to charge the health insurance to a different funding source during the summer for a 10-month employee, Human Resource Services must be notified in writing by May 15th.  After May 15th the academic year department will be charged for summer health insurance coverage and expenses will not be redistributed

Pay Dates

All pay dates for summer semester visiting faculty and regular academic year faculty will be on regular payroll dates (see the Distribution of Payroll Warrant Procedure).
