Grants and Contracts Termination Benefit Pool

Procedure

Unless otherwise provided by contractual provision, the following shall apply to grants and contracts that pay salaries and wages to individuals who accrue sick and annual leave during the course of their employment by the grant or contract.

  1. For contract and grant proposals which contain salaries and wages for employees eligible for sick and/or annual leave benefits the fringe benefit rate will include 5.0 (%) percent for employees accruing sick leave and 11.5 (%) percent for employees accruing sick and annual leave.
  2. For each pay period 5.0 (%) percent of total salaries and wages paid to employees accruing sick leave and 11.5 (%) percent of total salaries and wages paid to employees accruing sick and annual leave will be charged to the contract or grant and applied to the Contracts and Grants Leave Reserve Pool.
  3. Termination Benefits paid to any individual working on a grant or contract will be charged to the Grant Leave Pool.
  4. Regular sick and annual leave taken during the normal course of employment will be charged to the Grant Leave Pool for any employee working on a grant.
  5. All wages for employees hired for 90+ days of work will be subject to the assessment for Grant Leave Pool from the first day of employment and the grant will be charged accordingly. If the employee will become eligible for annual leave at six (6) months, then the 11.5 (%) percent rate will be the applicable assessment.
  6. Exceptions to this procedure must be approved in writing by the Vice President for Administration and Finance.
