Proposal Format

Proposals should be submitted in a narrative format, be a maximum of three pages, and clearly address the proposed COIL activity.  Formatting requirements for the proposal are single-spaced, one-inch margins, and 12-point font.

 The following items should be included in the proposal:

  • Applicant Information
    • Instructor name
    • Instructor title
    • Instructor school/department
  • Collaborating Instructor and Partner Institution Information (if known. If not known, provide your plan for identifying a partner)
    • Collaborating instructor name
    • Partner institution name
    • Previous engagement with instructor or institution
  • Description of the COIL Activity
    • Name and description of UM course in which the COIL activity will take place
    • Name and description of course at partner institution (if known, not required)
    • Semester when course will be taught
    • Detailed description of planned COIL activity (see example of proposal)
    • Anticipated number of UM students involved
    • Anticipated number of students from partner institution involved (if known. If not known, provide your plan for identifying a partner/course)$
    • Preferred platform for module delivery (e.g. Moodle, Google classrooms).
