Yes! Participants from other countries are always welcome at CoLang. Please email us at colang2022@gmail.com to let us know if you need an invitation letter to start the visa process for your country. You can also visit the UM Global Engagement Office for more information.

Yes, CoLang is for anybody (18+) who are working or interested in working in the field of collaborative language research, language documentation and revitalization, and language reclamation.

Yes. You must be at least 18 years old to attend CoLang 2022.

You do not need to join the Linguistics Society of America (LSA) unless you are applying for a fellowship from the LSA.

Credits & Units

Yes. You can request for graduate credits when you fill out a credit registration form. The credit registration form will be sent to you if you indicate your interest earning academic credits in the Preferences Form. However, it is up to your institution whether the credits earned at CoLang will be counted toward your degree.

Participants may opt to receive university credit for their participation in CoLang 2022: 3 credits for workshops and 6 credits for workshops and practica. To receive university credit, there is an additional transcript recording fee (not included in the registration fee), which will be payable to the UM Office of the Registrar on campus. Participants earning credit will be given a syllabus and complete the credit requirements, including attendance and a report about your CoLang experience.

Yes. You can earn 50 Renewable Units by participating in eight workshops and one 90-minute session.

Our campus is in Missoula, on the ancestral lands of the Salish and Kalispel people, at the base of Mount Sentinel, south of the Clark Fork River, very close to I-90, in northwestern Montana.

Day passes can be purchased for the ability to park in the University Permit lots. Passes can be purchased a day at a time or in bulk all at once. There are also hourly pay parking spots. UM uses a virtual parking permit system. Once you have purchased a parking pass, your license plate is your permit to park. See the UMPD Parking Division for more details on parking locations and how to get a parking pass  

The campus ADA Accessibility map shows the locations of accessible entrances, elevators, and restrooms.

UM Dining will have two on-campus locations open during the summer: The Market, located on the first floor of the University Center, and the Food Zoo, located in the Lommasson Center. The Iron Griz is also open to the public, which may be found next to the University of Montana Golf Course.

Yes, you may purchase day or week guest passes to use the Fitness and Recreation Center within our guidelines and policies. See the UM Campus Recreation for more information.

“Possession and consumption of alcohol is permitted on property belonging to the University of Montana only as allowed by state and local law, and University policy.” Click here to view UMs full alcohol policy

No, UM is a tobacco-free campus including chew, cigarettes, and vaping. However, the sidewalks around the perimeter of campus and the boulevard between the sidewalk and curb on Arthur and Beckwith avenues and 5th and 6th streets are city right of ways and are not covered by the policy. These areas have been established as "Good Neighbor Zones".

Yes, Missoula’s Mountain Line bus service is free and open to the public.
