Resources for Indigenous Students

Navigating academics, research, and university life can be exciting, overwhelming, and difficult. While CIS tries to provide for Indigenous STEM student needs, we realize that our scope is limited and students might need additional support. Below are campus and community resources including financial assistance, scholarships, food insecurity aid, and many other programs.

Student Support

  • Financial Aid

    UM's Financial Aid Office is your one-stop resource for help paying for college. From understanding all the different types of financial assistance available to submitting your FAFSA and applying for student loans and scholarships, they can help you navigate the process.

  • Financial Education

    You can participate in one-on-one financial counseling sessions as well as regularly scheduled workshops on a range of topics such as FAFSA, loans, budgeting, savings, and more.

  • UM Scholarship Portal

    The Scholarship Portal offers students one centralized general application, regardless of a their major or program of study.

  • UM Food Pantry

    The purpose of the UM Food Pantry is to support university students facing food insecurity. The Food Pantry is open Monday/Wednesday 10am-3pm, Tuesday/Thursday 4-6:00pm, and Saturday 11am-3pm.

  • ASUM Bear Necessities

    Bear Necessities provides support for students living through or on the edge of basic needs insecurity.

  • TRIO Student Support Services

    TRIO offers a plethora of support to UM students including academic advising, tutoring, financial aid, book and technology loan programs, and peer mentoring.

  • American Indian Student Services

    AISS supports Indigenous students in their transition, achievement, and success at UM by providing services and programs established through collaborative partnerships with various campus and Missoula community members.

  • Inclusive Excellence for Student Success

    IESS works directly with underrepresented students to both lift up and give strength to their events and ideas, as well as address any concerns or issues students may have with the University, their peers, or the Missoula community.

  • Indigenous Research and STEM Education

    IRSE is dedicated to the advancement of Native American, Alaskan Native, Native Hawaiian, and First Nation students in STEM disciplines and professions. They offer multiple programs for Indigenous students including the Sloan Scholars Program.

  • American Indian Science and Engineering Society

    AISES offers internships, professional development and career resources, national and regional conferences, leadership development summits, and other STEM-focused programming.
