Native Range Native to the mountains of central Europe, in the Alps and Carpathian Mountains as well as the Pyrenees, with disjunct lowland populations in northern Poland and southern Lithuania.

Fascinating Facts: This deciduous conifer, dropping all its “leaves” each fall, is found in the mountains of central Europe. It forms extensive forests at high altitudes up to 8,000 feet and surviving at -50 F.
