Griz Pathways to Success (GPS) is a 3-credit co-curricular online course designed exclusively for incoming first-year students to help them excel in college-level coursework and prepare for a meaningful career through ElevateU - UM's signature career readiness program. By completing GPS, students will gain valuable skills and knowledge to help them succeed academically and professionally, setting them on the path to a fulfilling career.


Weekly Topics

Learn how UM supports your career readiness through ElevateU, define your purpose for college, and complete research-based assessments to identify how to leverage personal strengths in your career journey.

In addition, you will review some pro tips and learning strategies for starting off your semester.

Students will be asked to prepare for a Zoom-based synchronous discussion.

Discover career paths and academic programs that match your interests. Continue to enhance your academic routine through organization, time management, procrastination management, and notetaking strategies.

Develop a strategy for career exploration and networking within your best-fit career fields.

Identify relevant UM resources to assist with a successful college experience. 

Students will be asked to prepare for a Zoom-based synchronous discussion.

Explore various experiential learning activities and identify those that can help you cultivate crucial career skills at UM.

Students will connect with current students for informational interviews during this week’s Zoom-based synchronous discussion.

Craft a personal narrative to communicate your unique value and create a career roadmap for your time at UM.

Promote student success by emphasizing the connection between mental and physical well-being and academic achievement, fostering adaptability, resilience, and effective communication skills crucial for navigating the challenges of college life.
