Welcome! The Writing Center provides a collaborative learning environment for all members of the University of Montana community. Through multiple tutoring options, such as scheduled appointments and drop-in studio hours, our professional consultants (also known as tutors) support undergraduates, graduate students, alumni, faculty, staff, and other community members at any point during the research, writing and presentation process.
Online and in-person appointments
Schedule a time to meet online or in-person with a professional consultant. During the school year, appointments are available six days a week, and same-day appointments are often available!

Drop-in studio hours
The Writing Studio is designed as a drop-in, supportive and communal place to work. A professional writing consultant is available as needed for brief consultations or questions.
During the school year, the Writing Studio is open between the hours of 1-4pm Monday through Friday on the main level of the Mansfield Library, in room 322.
Come at any stage of the writing, reading, or communication process and stay as long as you would like!
Satellite drop-in hours
During the fall and spring semesters you can also drop-in and find us at satellite locations across campus. Look for our sign and a friendly face!
- Branch Center (Room 206 of the University Center) on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-3pm
- Missoula College (2nd floor lounge area) on Tuesdays from 11:30am-1:30pm
- Payne Family Native American Center on Wednesdays from 11:30am-1:30pm
Graduate student programming
We offer support to graduate and professional students from every program, division, and department across campus. In addition to studio hours and appointments, we host graduate student writing groups, workshops, and retreats. Learn more about our graduate student programming.
International student support
We are trained to work with international students and students whose first language is not English. Stop by during studio hours, make an appointment, or set up recurring appointments to get support on your long-term goals. Please speak with a Writing Center consultant or email writingcenter@umontana.edu if you are interested in recurring appointments.
Online and distance students
We are delighted to serve UM students who are studying or working remotely!
To schedule an online appointment, go to our scheduler, find an available time that works for you, and select that you would like to work online via Zoom. You can access your online meeting by logging back into the scheduler at your appointment time, clicking your appointment box, and clicking the Zoom link.
