The University of Montana

Workers' Compensation

Workers' Compensation at The University of Montana is managed by Environmental Health and Risk Management. The program is designed to provide injured employees with easy access to the work comp insurance system if they are injured on the job. While we want to ensure that everyone injured in our employ is provided with high quality medical care leading to a rapid and healthy return to work, we want to preclude accidents and occupational injuries wherever possible.
Most accidents (over 90%) are caused by unsafe acts; not unsafe conditions. If you see an unsafe condition, you must report it to your supervisor immediately. Unsafe acts are more difficult to identify. We all know that an open, unguarded manhole or a bare electrical wire can be an accident waiting to happen (an unsafe condition). Standing on top of a step ladder, not using hearing or eye protection and lifting badly are unsafe acts. The University of Montana intends to provide safety training and any necessary safety equipment for all employees.
