With the Nobel Prize-winning economist Joseph Stiglitz, Professor Bilmes co-authored The Three Trillion Dollar War: The True Cost of the Iraq Conflict. This book became a national and international best-seller. In the lecture, she will discuss her latest book, The People Factor: Strengthening America by Investing in Public Service, co-written with Scott W. Gould.

This event is in part supported by a grant in Public Policy and Leadership from The Maureen and Mike Mansfield Center of The University of Montana, funded as a result of a Congressionally-directed grant award. You are cordially invited to attend a seminar with Linda Bilmes. After receiving a BA in Government and an MBA from Harvard, she spent ten years as a management consultant with the Boston Consulting Group, advising major corporations and governments on strategy and financial management. A full-time faculty member at the Harvard Kennedy School now, she teaches courses on budgeting, applied budgeting, and public finance. She also has two other responsibilities at Harvard: running a program that assists local cities and towns with their financial stability, and conducting the Institute of Politics budgeting workshops for newly-elected mayors and members of Congress.

A leading expert on US budgeting and public finance, Professor Bilmes has held senior positions in government, including Assistant Secretary and Chief Financial Officer of the US Department of Commerce, Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Administration, and US Representative to several high-ranking commissions, including a Treasury Department commission to examine the viability of the Inter-American Investment Corporation. She currently serves on the National Parks Second Century Commission.
