2013 Jazz Ensemble Auditions

Auditions will be held August 26-30, 2013 (see schedule below)
 

Audition Times
Monday, August 26, 2013
1:00pm - INFORMATIONAL MEETING (Required for all Participants!)
 
Tuesday, August 27, 2013 - BIG BANDS
1:00pm - SAXOPHONE
 
Wednesday, August 28, 2013 -BIG BANDS
1:00pm - TROMBONE
7:00PM - RYTHM SECTION
 
Thursday, August 29, 2013 -BIG BANDS
1:00pm - TRUMPET
 
Friday, August 30, 2013 -SMALL GROUPS
1:00pm -SMALL GROUPS/IMPROV

Audition Requirements
 
Saxophones, Trumpets & Trombones
  1. Prepared ensemble excerpts (learn all parts if possible) - be able to play with a section
  2. Sight reading - from a chart we will provide
  3. Individual Solo/Transcription - Any prepared tune, transcription, solo or etude (1-2 minutes). First year players this can be classical or jazz, transcription for returning student
Rythm Section
(For Three Big Bands & a Vocal Jazz Ensembles)
 
Drumset
  1. Prepared excerpts/pieces (see Individual Audition Requirements) - Looking for time & kicks
  2. Sight reading - from a chart we will provide (looking for time & kicks)
  3. Styles, Trading & Phrasing - swing, shuffle, bossa nova, samba, ballad, funk, etc...(4 & 8 Bars)
  4. Trio or Quartet playing a blues (for feel and groove)
  5. Optional Prepared Solo/Transcription - Any prepared tune, transcription, solo or etude
Piano/Guitar/Vibes
  1. Prepared excerpts/pieces (see Individual Audition Requirements) - looking for making the changes' and playing written figures
  2. Sight reading - from a chart we will provide (same as above)
  3. Trio or Quartet playing the blues (for feel and groove)
  4. Optional Prepared Solo/Transcription - Any prepared tune, transcription, solo or etude
Bass (Ability to play both acoustic & electric is preferred)
Prepared excerpts/pieces (see Individual Audition Requirements) - Ability to 'walk' bass lines, style & playing written figues
Sight reading - from a chart we will provide (same as above)
Trio or Quartet playing the blues - Ability to 'walk' bass line (for feel and groove)
Optional Prepared Solo/Transcription - Any prepared tune, transcription, solo or etude
