About This Site

The University of Montana's Homepage complex design and implementation project is a team effort between the Homepage Subcommittee and the Web Technology Services group of the Information Technology Office.

Why Redesign?

Telling The University of Montana story is one of the most important jobs of the university’s homepage. That story should engage all of our audiences, in a way that’s as unique as our audience members. How we tell our story attracts new faculty, financial donors, and yes—new students. To engage the user, the homepage must use compelling imagery and finely-crafted words together in a way that is meaningful. This content must go deeper to create a synergy that cannot be achieved separately. Users are invited to engage by reading, watching, listening, and interacting with the feature on a separate and dedicated page. Our redesign effort is an attempt to tell the story of The University of Montana.

Philosophy

As technology has evolved, so has the role of an organization’s website. Initially websites were purveyors of general information that rarely changed about an organization…the mission, vision and objectives, the organizations’s contact information, the address and phone number and other relatively static information.

The Internet has become a real time data and social information delivery system. Based on user initiated searches or targeted information pushed to users based on their stated preferences, websites are now capable of delivering constantly updated targeted relevant content.

The idea of targeted relevant content is the philosophy behind The University of Montana web redesign. Building a process to deliver relevant content as it is updated to targeted groups is the goal of our latest web redesign and the mission of our web site. By limiting the number of choices and amount of navigation based on targeted content, we are attempting to use web technologies to provide a more efficient, focused, customer-centric web site that changes based on who you are and what you are interested in.

It is our hope this philosophy will result in a process for continually delivering a rich variety of information you need to know about The University of Montana in an attractive, easy to use, well designed package.
