The University of Montana
UM's Eco Reps are student sustainability advocates who live in the residence halls and coordinate programming related to UM's Climate Action Plan. Fall 2013 kicked off the first year of Eco Reps living in Miller and Duniway Halls with great success. Eco Reps also coordinated sustainability outreach in Panzer, Knowles, and Craig Halls with the support of RAs.
During the 2013/2014 academic year, UM Eco Reps facilitated programming that addressed recycling, alternative transportation, UM's 2020 Carbon Neutrality Goal, sustainable living strategies, and energy efficiency. Working under the supervision of the ASUM Sustainability Center and the Climate Change Studies Program, the Eco Reps educate their peers on issues of sustainability in order to help the University of Montana reach the goals outlined in our 2010 Climate Action Plan.
We are currently accepting applications for Eco Reps for the 2014/2015 academic year. If you are interested in joining this motivated, active team of student sustainability advocates, please see the position announcement and application details HERE.
This year's Eco Reps are hosting two info sessions this month for interested students. Come learn more about the work they do, what skills it requires, and how you might fit into this great group of students.
Eco Rep Info Sessions: Tuesday, Feb. 18 @ 7:30pm AND Wednesday, Feb. 26 @ 7:30pm in the Alumni Boardroom (3rd Floor of the UC)
My name is Hope Radford and I am a sophomore at UM this year, majoring in Resource Conservation and minoring in Climate Change Studies and International Development Studies.
I was an Eco Rep last year in Knowles Hall and am working this year as an Eco Rep in Miller Hall. I enjoy being an Eco Rep because I am passionate about sustainability issues and enjoy sharing sustainability information with my peers. When I am not Eco Repping, I enjoy backpacking, hiking, swimming, running, and playing music.
My name is Katie Atherly and I am one of the Eco Reps in Knowles and Miller Halls. I hail from the small mountain town of Red Lodge, Montana, where my enthusiasm for preserving the natural world was kindled.
I am a second year Environmental Studies major focusing on sustainable agriculture. However, in addition to greening the world of food production, I feel that making eco-friendly decisions in all areas of life is important. Being an Eco Rep is an awesome opportunity to share the importance of green living with fellow students and to learn more about sustainability myself.
My name is Noah Rott and I am proud to be a lifelong Missoulian. I am currently a sophomore studying Environmental Studies, French, Journalism, and whatever else tickles my fancy.
I became an Eco Rep to become more involved in campus and community sustainability efforts and environmentally-friendly practices and, so far, have had a blast doing so! My favorite thing about being an Eco Rep is being connected with wonderful human beings and valuable education...also the grub.
My name is Alexandra and I was born and raised in California and am currently a sophomore here at UM where I am majoring in political science and art with a minor in French.
I've been involved in sustainability efforts for years, so becoming an Eco Rep seemed like a logical next step! (and an opportunity for a fantastic punn on my last name). In my spare time, I do just about every art and craft thing imaginable, which has proven to be very useful for Eco Rep events!
