  • Doctorate from University of Montana with Jack Stanford
  • 1 year Master of Environmental Management with Coastal emphasis, Duke University
  • Bachelor of Science with Aquatic Emphasis, Minor Photography from Northern Arizona University. Graduated honors.

 

Previous Experience

  • Intern at Scripps Institute of Oceanography studying physiology of air-breathing fishes, swimming ability of mako sharks and tuna, and great white shark anatomy.
  • Postdoctoral studies in Tierra del Fuego, Chile, and Primorsky Krai in Russia.
  • Senior Aquatic Ecologist at Wild Salmon Center, providing scientific guidance and linking of science to conservation.

  • Biocomplexity of floodplains specializing in parafluvial ponds. Looked at relation of topography, hydrology, habitat characteristics, and community ecology (algae. Plankton, plants, bugs, fish, amphibian).
  • Rapid assessments of habitat and community structure of 13 rivers in Tierra del Fuego with management and conservation recommendations.
  • Rapid assessment of the Samarga River to determine habitat complexity and fish community composition, structure, habitat use.
  • Recommended practices and locations for intended large-scale logging operations to achieve Forest Stewardship Practices certification.
  • Designed a conceptual framework and indicators for a widespread monitoring framework to determine the success of conservation and restoration activites using a variety of sources of information and partners in order to increase the exchange of information and lessons learned, increasing the efficiency of management efforts.
  • Numerous presentations and papers.
