Java is software that must reside on all Windows machines that use a web browser to access Banner (https://inb.umt.edu). Java runs automatically with your web browser and connects Windows-based clients and Oracle Application Forms. At UM the current Java version used on the Banner server is 1.6.43.
JAVA UPDATES
The Banner server is updated to the most current version of Java quarterly, in conjunction with Banner maintenance. A server lag time is possible with Java updates if a new version is released prior to the quarterly activity. However, Banner runs on the Java 1.6.x family, so if an update is released prior to this time frame, users can update if prompted to do so. No version conflicts will occur.
SYSTEM ADMINISTRATORS
If you need to install Banner on your users computers, you can download Java 6 update 45, the most currently version available. It will run with Banner. Click on the link to the right.
JAVA 7
Java 7 appears to work with Banner. However, there may be functions that do not perform properly. Ellucian, Banner’s parent company, has not yet certified Java 7 for Banner. If you attempt to use Banner with Java 7 and have problems, you may need to downgrade to Java 6 Update 43.
MAC USERS
We are recommending that Mac users update Java on their computers as follows:
