Following are installation instructions for the newest Banner Plug-in update from Java.com. Current version information is located on the Banner Support home page. If you already have this version of Java on your computer, you don’t need to re-install it. You must have administrative privileges on your computer in order to perform the install. If you need assistance, please contact your departmental IT administrator.
Step 1: Open your browser and navigate to the Java website: http://java.com
Step 2: Click on the Free Java Download button.
Step 3: At the Java for Windows page, click on the Free Java Download button.

Step 4: A File Download – Security Warning dialog box displays. Click Run. An Internet Explorer – Security Warning dialog box may display. Click Run. You may then see a User Account Control dialog box (Windows 7) prompting you to allow the program to make changes on your computer. Click Yes.

Step 5:
a) A Java Setup – Welcome window displays.
b) Click Install.

Step 6: The installation dialog box displays. The install may take a few minutes.

Step 7: A Java Setup – Complete dialog box displays. Click Close.

Step 8:
a) You are now almost finished with the installation process. A Verifying Java Version web page will display. Click on the Verify Java version button.

b) A Verifying Installation page will display for 10-60 seconds.

c) The next screen will inform you if your Java is working and which version is installed. If you experience problems with this process, options for troubleshooting are available below the information window.
The next time you login to Banner, you may need to finish the install process – Steps 9 through 12.
Step 9: Login to Banner as you normally would. If the Information Bar displays, click Close. You will be prompted to run “Java™ SE Runtime Environment [current version]. Click on that prompt and select Run Add-on.
Step 10: An Internet Explorer – Security Warning dialog box displays. Click Run to run the ActiveX control.
Step 11:
a) A Security Information dialog box may display next informing you that the digital signature has been verified. Click Run to run the application.

b) Java will load into your screen. A Java(TM) Platform, Stardard Edition balloon will display at the bottom of the screen.
Step 12: Login to Banner. You are now up-to-date with the Java Plug-in for running Banner (http://inb.umt.edu). Once you have logged into Banner after the Java Plug-in install, you won’t notice anything different in the way Banner operates or how the screens look, but you now have the most up-to-date and secure version of Java on your computer.
